Contrary to popular belief, outdoor air is not necessarily the most polluted. It is in the majority of cases the exact opposite due to its ignorance. However, a few good practices are enough to considerably reduce any health risk and improve the quality of your daily life.
Ensuring air renewal
We spend an average of 14 hours a day in our accommodation, so it is essential to feel good there and not to experience constant discomfort. Aeration is the simplest process for obtaining better quality air. 10 minutes a day minimum are recommended for it to be really effective.
You should also remember to turn on the ventilation or open the windows when cooking to prevent gas fumes from stagnating in the house. The same is true for all physical activity (sport, work, etc.).
Whatever your type of home, your home must have a ventilation system. Generally installed in the kitchen, it is used to evacuate part of the fumes to avoid excessive inhalation of gases.
Ventilation can be done in two ways: naturally or mechanically with a device dedicated to the task for better suction, such as a hood for example. We must also not forget to maintain the system, otherwise micro-organisms can lodge in it and form foam or mold.
It is estimated today that the humidity level of a living room is ideal between 40 and 60%. Beyond that, you have to regularly think about having it evacuated. Indeed, humidity tends to store pollutants and cause mold whose spores are harmful and can lead to health complications. Regular ventilation is recommended in this case, as well as investing in a dehumidifier which will take care of absorbing the excess humidity.
Choosing the right furniture
Few think about it, but furniture also emits volatile organic compounds. These are more or less dangerous depending on the type of materials. Raw natural materials are preferred instead of plywood or chipboard furniture. Likewise for objects with unnatural paint or glue, they are to be avoided, since they release chemicals into the air for a while after installation if they are new.
Maintain your devices
Carry out maintenance on your appliances very regularly, whether it is a simple vacuum cleaner or your boiler, you should not neglect any of them. A poorly maintained vacuum cleaner can release dust particles into its environment causing sneezing, eye irritation, and respiratory problems. Even worse, an incorrectly configured boiler can emanate from thecarbon monoxidewhich can cause headaches, fainting and in the worst case death. So be sure to always take care of your facilities.
A multi-weekly cleaning
Vacuuming dust and cleaning the floor with bleach is the best way to keep your home clean. It is advisable to do this several times a week to maintain good hygiene in the rooms. Be careful, however, to only use natural or ecological household products such as black soap, white vinegar or bleach, because they contain fewer polluting compounds.
No air fresheners
Despite the good scents they can provide, sprays, scented candles, home fragrances and incense are prohibited for healthy air. They emanate many chemicals in the air. To counter odors, nothing better than elbow grease with a bit of cleaning.
